As fish stocks in the sea are dwindling we’re told that we’re at crisis point for many species. The EU imposed their so-called tough quotas to apparently stop fishing vessels from catching too many fish. Trouble is for the fishermen it’s a tough job to target selected species (so they say) and their solution apparently is to dump all the ‘wrong species’ of fish back into the sea, half dead to feed the seagulls. That is obviously a brilliant way to ensure that there is a fishing industry left for future generations; these environmental genius should be applauded.
I am not a scientist, but I can say that such blatant exuberance of throwing away ‘useless’ fish, such as Cod, surely can’t be a sensible thing, so I suggest that the EU do something about it and fast. I watched the news last night, and I saw an interview with the Commissioner responsible for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs, Joe Borg, say something along the lines of (forgive me if I quote incorrectly), that dumping fish over the side of fishing boats was a bad thing, but it was a hard thing to sort out… well, Joe… sure it’s hard to sort out, but that’s your job so get to it before you and every fisherman and associated industry employee’s are on the dole queue.
